I never had the opportunity to continue education after Grade 3 because my family was too poor, so I had to go work as a builder to earn $5 a day so that my family could have some food. This means I am an uneducated person and I am so happy that my son has an opportunity to study for free at the Phum Ou School and Vocational Centre. I am lucky also because he teaches me what he learns at school so I can learn also.

I am now 43 years old and have had little chance to work because I have no legs, after stepping on a land mine many years ago. I work hard to make woodcarvings to sell to support my family of 6 people whilst my wife never went to school and works on the farm to produce food. I have two older children who are 25 and 23 and they work as a builder and never had the chance to continue their schooling. My other daughter is in grade 2.

I am thankful for the Phum Ou School and Vocational Centre because it gives my family a new opportunity in this life.
