‘I have four people in my family and I am the first child and have a younger brother called Yan who is four years old, I sometimes have to cook and look after my brother because my parents are very busy. My father works as a labourer on a building site, he works very hard for 11 hours each day although only earns $6 a day to support our family. It is difficult for him because he has a broken hand. My mother works on our small farm to make rice and vegetables for us to eat.’
‘My name is Ounhee Leang, I am 8 years old and I am in grade three at school. I attend the Phum Ou School and Vocational Centre and I really enjoy going to school because I have so much fun to learn and practice my English. When I am older I would like to be a Khmer and English teacher. The thing I like most is reading and having fun with my family.’
