EDGE Worldwide’s approach has developed through more than two decades of experience in education, community engagement and international development, and through deep personal connections with communities facing very different educational and social challenges.
In Cambodia, this has meant years of listening, learning and working directly alongside educators, families, community leaders and students. We do not begin with a predetermined solution. We begin by understanding the people, the place, the challenges already being faced and the strengths that already exist. From there, we look at where EDGE can genuinely add value, strengthening education, creating opportunity and supporting individuals and communities to build capability for themselves.

EDGE’s work is shaped in collaboration with Cambodian educators, community leaders and local stakeholders. Their knowledge, experience and understanding of their communities are central to how priorities are identified and how initiatives are developed.
Presence builds stronger relationships.
Long-term engagement matters. EDGE has maintained a sustained connection with Cambodia for more than 15 years, and our leadership is actively present in-country, building relationships, listening and remaining connected to the communities and organisations we work alongside.
We keep learning and improving.
Our work is continually reviewed through feedback, observation and ongoing engagement with the people involved.
We assess what is working, where challenges remain and what can be improved, using that learning to refine our approach and strengthen future initiatives.

Understanding Before Acting
Every community is different.
Our work begins with relationships. We listen to educators, families, students, community leaders and others who understand their communities best.
We learn about the challenges people face, the opportunities already present and where additional support could make a meaningful difference. Education remains central: access to learning, student wellbeing, opportunities beyond school and community support for education.
This approach was shaped by our early work in Phum Ou Village, Siem Reap Province. Local relationships guided the development of the community school and continue to influence how EDGE works today.
Working Alongside What Already Exists
Our role is to strengthen the systems already in place.
Wherever possible, EDGE works alongside schools, educators, communities and existing educational structures. Programs and initiatives are developed collaboratively and are intended to complement Cambodia’s education system, strengthen existing learning opportunities and respond to areas where additional resources, expertise or support can add value.
This might involve language development, literacy, digital learning, broader curriculum support, teacher development, student wellbeing or individual educational pathways.
Learning, Expanding and Creating New Possibilities
Years of working closely with communities, educators and individuals, together with engagement with education professionals and organisations in Cambodia and internationally, have continually expanded our understanding of how EDGE can contribute.
Our work can take many forms.
It may mean supporting an existing school. It may involve developing language or digital literacy programs. It can mean mentoring a student with significant academic potential, supporting educators through professional development, strengthening pastoral care, or helping a community respond to an immediate educational need.
Looking Ahead: The Hub Initiative
That experience is also informing EDGE Worldwide’s longer-term vision for Education & Pastoral Care Hubs.
The Hub concept explores how a flexible space, located within a community or educational setting, could bring together several forms of support according to local need, including language and digital learning, teacher professional development, mentoring and pastoral care, community activities and, where appropriate, access for visiting health professionals such as doctors, nurses or dental teams to perform medical checks.

EDGE Worldwide is a registered Australian charity working alongside Cambodian educators, schools and communities. For more than fifteen years now we have been working with local educators to strengthen schools, support students and build capability that stays in the community.
