Providing Digital Literacy

· Angkor Chey District, Kampot Province

Access to technology is increasingly essential to education, yet for many students in rural Cambodia, opportunities to develop basic digital skills remain limited.

In 2026, EDGE Worldwide supported a major digital literacy initiative led by Sabay Organic Foundation, contributing funding towards the establishment of a new computer laboratory for high-school students in Angkor Chey District, Kampot Province.

Working alongside Sabay Organic Foundation and other local partners, the initiative transformed an ambitious fundraising campaign into a fully operational IT classroom. The completed lab was equipped with 40 computers, a central server, printer and supporting technology, providing approximately 400 students with access to computers as part of their education.

For EDGE Worldwide, supporting the project was a natural extension of work we have been undertaking for many years. We believe digital literacy is an increasingly important part of educational opportunity. EDGE has regularly provided computers directly to students whose circumstances would otherwise make access to technology difficult, helping them participate in their studies, develop practical digital skills and access opportunities beyond the classroom.

The Angkor Chey project allowed us to contribute to that same objective on a much larger scale.

Importantly, the project was built around local collaboration. Sabay Organic Foundation led the fundraising initiative, while Samaky Organisation provided technical expertise, additional equipment, installation support and an ongoing commitment to maintaining the computers. School leadership and local educators were closely involved in identifying the need and ensuring the facility could become a sustainable part of students’ education.

Following installation, students began using the computers immediately, with the new IT lab formally opened in June 2026.

For EDGE, the significance of the project extends beyond the equipment itself. A computer can provide a student with access to information, new ways of learning, practical skills and opportunities that increasingly underpin further education and employment.

By supporting initiatives such as this, alongside our ongoing provision of computers directly to students, EDGE Worldwide aims to help ensure that where a young person lives or their financial circumstances do not unnecessarily limit their ability to participate in an increasingly digital world.
